Toroian’s book provides practical information about how investments and banking work, with the aim to help individuals plan their finances and achieve long-term prosperity. Written after the 2008 stock crash, the book advises readers how to avoid the loss of their homes or investments because they were taking faulty advice from professed financial gurus. It covers 25 myths related to the economy and the big picture, debt, and personal finance decisions.

Myths such as “all debts are bad” and “co-signing on a loan is okay to help someone out” are just a few related to personal finance. Other myths dispelled related to the market include "[t]he best thing to do is stay invested, stay the course," "[r]eal estate is a great place to invest, but only if you do so without going into debt," and "[w]e are in for a long, slow recovery and it will be another five years before the economy is healthy."
